Healthcare Principal

Rick Carter brings 35 years of healthcare consulting and operations expertise to lead Princeton’s healthcare practice, helping hospital and physician leaders improve process and performance through the implementation of and tools for patient service lines as a physician- led, professionally managed operating strategy to deliver care less like a department store and more like specialty care boutiques. Prior to joining Princeton Consultants, Rick founded and led Equation Consulting, a healthcare economics and analytics rm for 11 years.

Prior to Equation, he served as a senior director of Phase 2 Consulting for 10 years, spent 6 years in solo consulting practice, and worked 9 years in healthcare operations (after attending Brigham Young University). Rick has worked on 500+ projects with hospitals and health systems, large and small physician practices, academic medical centers and faculty practice plans, employed physician groups, hospital-based physicians, and across most medical and surgical specialties. He specializes in physician economics, operations and strategy and organizing the physician-led, professionally managed patient service line delivery model for hospitals and health systems. He is a former board member of the Association of Management Consulting Firms (AMCF), former President of the INFORMS/Spreadsheet Productivity Group, and advisory board member of Mercy College MBA/ Strategic Consulting Institute.
